Thinking about making the move to Real Broker in Ontario? The process is usually simpler than agents expect when the documents, resignation timing, RECO transfer, board access, and branding updates are handled in the right order.
Use the sequence below as a clean reference before you start the official application or speak with onboarding support.
01
Gather your information
Before starting the transfer, collect the core details Real and the onboarding team may need so the application can move without avoidable delays.
This usually takes less than 15 minutes if your license, board, current brokerage, ID, banking, and payment information are already handy.
RECO registration number
Licence expiry date
Current brokerage information
Board and MLS information
Sponsor name and email
Photo of your driver’s licence
Banking information for commission deposits
Payment information for onboarding fees
PREC information, if applicable
02
Complete your Real Broker application
Complete Real Broker’s onboarding application online and sign the Independent Contractor Agreement.
Once submitted, you should receive login information for your Real account and onboarding portal. This is the point where the formal transfer process begins.
03
Download the PDF here
Use the resignation letter PDF as a simple starting point once your timing has been confirmed.
Download the template, customize it for your situation, and confirm your own brokerage obligations before sending notice. A copy of your resignation letter is then sent to Real’s onboarding department so the RECO transfer can begin.
04
RECO transfer is processed
Your registration transfer is processed through RECO.
Once approved, you officially become registered with Real Broker Ontario Ltd., Brokerage. At this stage, the license move is nearly complete.
05
Transfer board and MLS access
After the RECO transfer is complete, your board and MLS memberships are moved over as separate items.
Boards may require their own paperwork or transfer fees. Examples may include OREB, TRREB, OnePoint, Cornerstone, KAREA, or other Ontario boards.
06
Set up your business tools
Once active, start setting up the Real systems that support your day-to-day business.
This may include reZEN, the Real mobile app, marketing resources, training, revenue share tools, Workplace communication, stock program information, referral networking, and transaction management systems.
07
Update your branding
Refresh the visible places where clients and prospects see your brokerage information, then review what Real makes available through the Design Center.
Update business cards, email signatures, social bios, website information, Google Business Profile, marketing templates, signage, and listing materials. Ontario advertising should include Real Broker Ontario Ltd., Brokerage. Use the Real Design Center guide to see the marketing and design resources agents can access.
Treat the brokerage move as the beginning of a stronger operating system, not the finish line.
The agents who settle in fastest tend to lean into training, systems, lead generation, consistency, community, marketing, accountability, technology, AI, and automation.
Board, tools, and branding
Keep the moving parts visible.
The transfer is not only the license update. Board access, MLS access, tools, marketing, and advertising details also need attention once your registration status changes.
Update business cards, email signatures, social bios, website information, Google Business Profile, marketing templates, signage, and listing materials. Agents can also review Real Design Center resources to see what marketing support is available.
Ontario advertising should include: Real Broker Ontario Ltd., Brokerage.
How long does the transfer process take?
Most transfers are completed within a few business days, depending on board processing times and paperwork completion.
Will I lose my listings?
Not necessarily. Active listings and transactions can often be transferred properly, but every situation is different. Speak with your Broker of Record and onboarding support team before making final decisions.
Do I need to transfer my board membership separately?
Yes. Your RECO transfer and your board or MLS transfer are separate steps, and the board may require its own paperwork or fees.
Can I transfer if I am currently on a team?
Yes. Team agreements and brokerage agreements are separate things. Review any agreements you have signed before transferring so your timing and obligations are clear.
Is exploring a move confidential?
Exploring a brokerage move is common in real estate, and onboarding conversations are generally handled confidentially.
Do I need to incorporate before joining Real?
No. Some agents operate as sole proprietors, while others use a PREC or corporation structure. Speak with your accountant or legal professional about what makes sense for your business.
